Know where your information lives
Your archive lives on your computer
The desktop app owns the archive. The server supports licensing and a brief authorization handoff; it does not host your posts or insight history.
- Local archive
- SQLite stores collected Threads posts, folders (up to three levels), memos, saved views and filters, and insight snapshots on this computer.
- Operating system secure storage
- Threads access tokens and device proof are kept in your operating system secure store, separately from the archive database.
- License and authorization server
- The server checks your product key and registered device. During Threads authorization, it relays an encrypted, single-use handoff that expires after five minutes. It does not store archived posts or insights.
Take the archive with you
Export a portable database backup from Settings and import it on another computer.
- Included
- Archived posts, folders, memos, saved views, preferences, and insight history.
- Not included
- Connection profiles and other connection metadata, access tokens, license state, device registration, or original media files.
- On another computer
- Your archive can be restored, but account authorization is not. Connect your Threads account again on that computer.
